Here's Your February 2018 Digital Marketing News Roundup

So much has happened in the digital marketing world in February 2018! Check out this article to learn about Facebook’s new algorithm update, Google’s mobile-optimization tools and the ability to edit your restaurant’s menu in your Google listing.

1. In case you haven’t heard about it yet, Facebook changed its algorithm…again.

Technically, this was announced in January, but the update will take months to roll out.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook’s founder, announced the update in a public Facebook post from his personal profile. Here’s the full post:


As you can see, Zuckerberg wants businesses to know their reach and engagement will probably drop.

And, in case you don’t want to read the entire post, the idea is that Zuckerberg wants to make Facebook interactions more meaningful and emphasize posts from friends and family rather than brands.

While this probably seems scary for businesses that use Facebook to engage and interact with local consumers, it’s definitely not the end of the world.

2. Google really wants your site to load quickly on mobile devices.

Mobile isn’t the future. It’s the present. Everyone’s on their phones all the time.

That’s why your site needs to be optimized for mobile. You don’t want to scare potential customers away with slow-to-load pages.

To help with this, Google released a new speed test score to make sure your pages are loading quickly.

The search engine also created a calculator to tell you how much your site’s speed will affect your conversion rates and revenue, so you’ll definitely want to check this out.

3. Restaurants can now add and edit menus in their Google My Business listings.

Is your menu incorrect in your Google listing? Well, now you can edit it. Google announced this update about a month ago, saying it will allow restaurant listing owners to showcase menus directly in their Google listing.

So far, this feature is only available to restaurants in English speaking countries with listings that aren’t connected to a third party provider.
