A lot changed in the digital marketing world in April 2018! In this article, we'll walk you through the changes we've seen.
Here are April's biggest updates:
1. The Google mobile-first saga continues.
We’ve been writing about Google’s mobile-first algorithm, what it means and how it will affect your business. And, now it looks like it’s happening.
Webmasters are getting notifications in search console that mobile-first indexing is enabled for websites they manage.
This will probably roll out to all businesses soon, so now is the time to make sure your site is mobile-friendly. If you’re a RevLocal client, don’t worry. Your RevSite is optimized for mobile.
2. Google’s cracking down on sentiment checks in reviews.
Google recently announced that it will be penalizing businesses that do a sentiment check before asking for reviews.
This means that if you ask your customers whether they had a good experience before asking them for a review in order to filter out negative feedback, you could get into some trouble with Google.
Google is penalizing businesses by removing their reviews if they find the business is using a sentiment check.
Again, if you’re a RevLocal client, we’re working on a solution for this! Watch the above video to learn what we’re doing and how it will affect your business.
3. We’re up for an ad-to-action award!
RevLocal was named as a finalist in the LSA ad-to-action awards. We were one of two finalists in the ‘Best Creative’ category. Winners will be announced May 1st so stay tuned!
4. You may be able to add a menu of services to your Google listing.
Google recently gave restaurants the ability to edit their menus, and now the search engine is expanding the menu functionality to other businesses, including health and beauty, plumbers, florists and more.
It looks like this is only available if your listing isn’t connected to a third party provider and if it’s a listing for English-speaking locals.
There’s more information at the Google Advertiser Community.
